Ambiance was perfection, service impeccable, food….mediocre at best. I am so sad to say this because I absolutely LOVE The Peninsula Hotel and the spa they have there, which is why I was so excited to try their rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, the food was no better than your neighborhood Chinese joint.
I always ask the server what they recommend when I am trying new restaurants and 9 times out of 10, that is what I order. My rationale is that, they know the menu better than anyone and can probably pick out the best dishes. My server (sweet as she was) suggested the shrimp spring rolls and the Beijing style pork tenderloin. The spring rolls tasted no different than any other deep friend spring roll I’ve ever had and the pork tenderloin could have been sesame chicken for all I knew, it looked and tasted just like Chinese take-out.
As bummed and disappointed as I am, I am still not giving up on it. I love the decor and it’s a great outdoor space for a warm summer night. I think I will still try and come back for drinks sometime but as far as the food goes, I think I’ll pass….
